Oversized Baggage

Don’t let the baggage stop you. We allow every traveller to bring up to four bags. If your baggage exceeds the weight or size limit, don’t worry, we will determine at the airport if an oversized bag fee applies.

A bag is considered oversized if it meets the following requirements:

  1. Baggage exceeding 157 cm (62 in.) in total combined dimension (Length + Width + Height), but less than 203 cm (80 in.).

  2. Baggage exceeding 23kg (50 lbs), but not no more than 45 kg (100 lbs).

If your bag meets the above requirements, there will be an additional fee of $105-$115† for domestic and international flights, which will be applied to each bag that is considered oversized. Fees will be charged at the airport at the time you are checking your bags.

†Prices are shown in CAD. For all flights originating from the U.S., prices will be reflected in USD when booking. For all flights departing within Canada, the oversized fee will be in CAD currency. Prices vary depending on the day of departure and will vary depending on applicable taxes and flight destination. All baggage fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. For bookings made prior to November 23, 2018, please refer to the tariff for previous baggage rates.

Musical Instruments

Purchase a carry-on and bring your instrument onboard with you.

Due to size restrictions, musical instruments must be under combined total dimensions of 80 inches to be accepted. Oversize fees will be waived. Musical instruments need to follow regular checked bag weight restrictions (50lbs) with a limit of 100lbs and will be charged the overweight fee if the musical instrument is overweight.

Military Baggage Information

Any active military personnel are entitled to:

  • Two free checked bags

  • One free carry-on bag

If you are active military personnel travelling for business or personal reasons, you must follow these steps to claim your free bags:

  • Head to the airport with your baggage on the day of your flight. DO NOT purchase your bags online. Any purchased bags are non-refundable.

Get to the airport on time.

a) For domestic flights: We suggest you arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes prior to departure. Baggage drop off closes 45 minutes prior to departure with no exceptions.

b) For international flights: We suggest you arrive at the airport at least 120 minutes prior to departure. Baggage drop off closes 60 minutes prior to departure with no exceptions.

Present a valid military identification to the Swoop agent at the airport check-in counter. Only the Swoop agent at the airport check-in desk will be able to grant you your free military baggage allowance.

Overweight/oversize fees will still apply, so make sure your checked bags meet the weight and size requirements. Exceptions may apply for active personnel being deployed.

Hazardous Material and Dangerous Goods

We value safety above all. Before you pack your bags and take off to the airport, please take a look at what you can, and can’t bring onto your flight.

Visit hazardous materials and dangerous goods for a full, comprehensive list of restricted items that are not allowed on Swoop flights.

Travelling with Pets

We do not accept pets on Swoop flights.

Delayed/Damaged Bags

Damage to baggage and/or contents must be reported to a Swoop representative within seven days of your flight’s arrival. Please return to the airport with your damaged baggage for assessment.

Delayed baggage/missing contents

Delayed baggage must be reported to Swoop within 21 days of your flight’s arrival. A Swoop representative will create a delayed baggage report for you that will include your contact information and a description of your baggage and its contents to assist in the search.

Once the report has been completed, a Swoop representative will advise you of the next steps and work with you to locate your baggage. If your baggage is not recovered in five days, our Central Baggage team will take over the search.

If you discover items are missing from your baggage, this must be reported to a Swoop representative immediately. A report must be created within 21 days of your flight’s arrival.

Limits of liability

For domestic travel only, Swoop’s maximum liability as a result of damage and/or loss is $2,100 CAD per bag. For international travel, Swoop’s liability will be limited by either the Montreal Convention or the Warsaw Convention, as applicable. In most cases, the limitation amount will be $2,100 CAD.

If a bag is lost, travellers will be reimbursed for their baggage fee in addition to the settlement for the loss of baggage.
