Abbotsford is chock-full of amazing local produce, so it’s no surprise that their restaurant scene is bursting with flavour and ingenuity. While there are over 200 restaurants to choose from in the region, here are some suggestions to get you started!
If you’re looking for true farm-to-table dining, then Restaurant 62 is a must-try. They source products from local farms, so that means the menu changes with the season. Some highlights include the BC Beef Sirloin with potato pavé and green peppercorn sauce, and the Fraser Valley pork chop. If you’re there in mid-July, look out for the Customer Appreciation menu where you can get a 3-course meal for $35, which includes delicious dishes like Honey Mussels & Manila Clams with roasted garlic cream broth, Sweet Pea Risotto with summer squash and Parmesan, and Almond Panna Cotta with stone fruit.
If seafood is what you’re after, look no further than Bow & Stern. Their specialty is fish & chips, and they’ve been perfecting their tartar sauce recipe for 30 years! They also use sustainably sourced fish, so you can enjoy it totally guilt-free. The seafood doesn’t stop there though – they have both hot and cold seafood platters to share, fresh raw oysters, lobster mac n’ cheese, a variety of seafood tacos, burgers and even a fried oyster po’boy. They also have many dishes that don’t come from the sea, such as braised short ribs with red wine, rosemary and sage reduction and a vegetarian black bean burger.
A unique mixture of Montreal and New Orleans cuisine, Brodeur’s Bistro serves hearty comfort food that you won’t find anywhere else. Menu highlights include jambalaya and chicken & waffles, plus Quebecois favourites such as Montreal Smoked Meat sandwiches and tourtière. One of the most unique things about Brodeur’s is the fact that most of the entrees come with a choice of one of their 28 side dishes! They have the classics like French fries and salad, plus more inventive options like buffalo cauliflower, French-Canadian style split pea soup, linguini & meatballs and even waffles with syrup!
Trading Post is a mainstay in the Fraser Valley brewery scene, and they recently opened an eatery in Abbotsford, along with a second location in Fort Langley. Featuring many of the same beers you would find at the brewery, the restaurant also has a full menu with locally inspired casual dining. Think poutine, charcuterie boards and a variety of tacos and handhelds. They even have a Keto Bison Steak, made specially for the carb-averse among us. They also serve brunch, featuring all your favourites like eggs benedict, omelettes, breakfast poutine and waffles.
When you’re in the mood for fresh baked goods and delicious coffee, Duft & Co. Bakehouse might be just what you’re looking for. Their daily products include sweet and savoury treats alike – croissants, pain au chocolat, danishes, cinnamon buns and even gluten-free coffee cake. They also have a variety of feature sandwiches, donuts and other treats that changes frequently – make sure to follow their Facebook page to get all the updates.
