Bright and early on Wednesday June 20, 2018, the first Swoop airplane took flight.
The flight departed from John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM) at 5:45 a.m. (EST) and landed Abbotsford International Airport (YXX) at 7:40 a.m. (PDT).
Guests were greeted at the airport in Hamilton with balloons, Swoop swag and snacks served on pink plates to celebrate this exciting day in Canadian aviation. Swoop has created a new space in the Canadian travel sphere offering a no-frills, lower-fare air travel option that will get more Canadians travelling, and that’s exactly what they did.
For many of the passengers on Swoop’s inaugural flight, this trip meant so much more to them than just a cross-country vacation. By offering more affordable airfare options, many of the passengers on-board this flight celebrated the opportunity to reconnect with friends and family who live across Canada for less. Upon arrival, Swoop’s first fleet of passengers were welcomed with a water cannon salute at Abbotsford International Airport marking this momentous day in Canadian travel.
Swoop flies a fleet of modern Boeing 737-800 aircraft decked out in their signature pink colour making it friendly and inviting for guests to enjoy a low-cost flight. Your ticket price includes the cost of the seat and one piece of hand luggage stored in the seat in front of you. Among the 189 seats onboard the airplane, 39 seats have extra legroom and are availiable for passengers to purchase at an extra cost. There are also additional fees for overhead and stored baggage. This allows the passenger to choose the price of their ticket based on what matters most to them and save money wherever possible.
The aircraft interior is also outfitted with amenities including in-seat power, fully adjustable headrests, WiFi connectivity and in-flight entertainment. Swoop is the first ultra-low-cost-carrier in North America to offer in-flight WiFi connectivity. The Swoop App also allows you to book, track and manage your upcoming trips as well as enjoy movies and television shows in-flight. This summer, Swoop is offering all in-flight entertainment complimentary for all passengers onboard their flights.
A two-way flight from John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM) to Abbotsford International Airport (YXX) will fly six times a week departing from Hamilton in the morning and returning from Abbotsford shortly after.
