It may be small, but the milkshakes are mighty. Mighty delicious. The Bridge Drive-In is often touted as having the best soft-serve, ice cream and milkshakes in all of Winnipeg. Famous for its exotic classic ‘the goog,’ this seasonal drive-in is only open from March to October, so don’t miss your chance to try some of their delicious specialties! The 55-year-old family-owned business doesn’t just serve up great ice-treats, but it also offers a welcoming atmosphere that many travel far and wide to experience.
At only $6 a ticket, Folklorama is an exciting and incredibly affordable event. Running every August, this annual event sheds light on the various cultures and traditions around the world. Folklorama is the longest and largest running multicultural festival in the world offering live entertainment, authentic ethnic cuisine and cultural displays all in a vibrant setting. This lively festival features artists and cultural entertainers from China, Japan, Brazil, India, Africa, Ireland and many others around the world.
This isn’t your ordinary bakery. Baked Expectations is a Winnipeg icon that showcases delightful cakes, treats and other baked goods. It offers everything from enormous burgers to decadent desserts to satisfy any sweet tooth. As for the ambience, get ready to go retro. Baked Expectations is renowned for their unique 50s diner style and fun, friendly staff. Get ready to chow down!
You might want to set aside 3-4 hours to experience all the fantastic exhibits featured at The Canadian Museum for Human Rights. Adjacent to the forks in downtown Winnipeg, this museum currently offers several exhibitions and is continuously varying. This summer the exhibitions are: Seeking Safety; Canadian Doctors in the Field; One Woman’s Resistance and an upcoming exhibition on Nelson Mandela which will be opening June 2018.
Located at the junction of the Assiniboine and Red River, The Forks is one of Winnipeg’s most beloved places, offering exciting events, markets, shops and delicious food. The Forks is a historical landmark that was used for trading over 6,000 years ago and has now become a major tourist attraction, welcoming more than four million visitors annually.
Socials are a long-standing tradition and hidden treasure that you've got to attend. Most of you are probably wondering, "What the heck is a social?" Typically, socials are grassroots fundraisers put on by individuals or groups raising money throwing a party. If you are lucky enough to stumble upon one of these fun-for-all events, GO PARTY! Socials are relatively inexpensive, usually costing around $10 a ticket, which includes food, a raffle draw and sometimes even drink tickets.
