Did you know January 25th is National Florida Day? The history of Florida dates to 1845 when it joined the United States of America. Although Florida became the 27th US state on March 3, 1845, National Florida Day is celebrated on January 25 each year.
There has never been a better time to visit Florida. All you need to recharge is there, sunny sands, blue skies, roller coasters, movie references, and subtropical weather. These are our top 3 Florida vacation hot spots, and they double up as some of the best Florida Spring Break destinations.
Everyone knows one of the biggest reasons people love travelling to this vacation hot spot in Florida is access to some of the best theme parks in the world. Walt Disney World Resort not only has 4 theme parks but also offers 120 square km (about the area of Manhattan) of water parks, dining, golf courses, accommodations, and lots of shopping options.
If this somehow is not enough, this Florida vacation hot spot is also home to Universal Orlando Resort. Universal has 2 theme parks, Universal Studios™ and Universal’s Islands of Adventure ™ - where you can experience the Wizarding World of Harry Potter™ and enter two lands of groundbreaking thrills and magical fun.
You can visit both Universal Studios Resort parks in one day with the park-to-park option, or experience one park per day. The best way to cross from one park to the other is using Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Express ™, and we can assure you will feel like you are in one of the movies.
If you are a sports fan, you can enjoy an evening going to an Orlando Magic game!
Now, let us talk about the benefits of getting there by landing in a smaller airport.
Flying to Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) puts you in the middle of Florida’s most popular destinations. SFB is now simpler, faster, and better than ever, plus it’s always nice to fly to an airport that is convenient and friendly with a direct flight. Plus, it is only 40 min away from Universal and 50 min away from Disney World Resort.
You can either take an Uber (about $50 USD) from Orlando Sanford to your resort and take advantage of Disney World’s resort transportation service, or you can rent a car and move at your own pace. Most of Disney World’s resort hotels offer free parking, but for others, you may need to pay an extra fee.
You can fly direct to Orlando Sanford from Toronto, Hamilton, Edmonton, Abbotsford, and Winnipeg with Swoop!
St. Petersburg or as we like to call it St. Pete holds the title of ‘most consecutive days with sunshine’ at 768 days (about 2 years), hence its nickname ‘Sunshine City’. This Florida vacation hot spot is on Florida’s gulf coast and part of Tampa Bay. Which makes it a fantastic location for golfing, fishing, boating, shopping, and beaching.
If you are into art, the waterfront parks host the Salvador Dali Museum, containing the largest collection of Dali’s work outside Spain. Among other great museums, the Chihuly Collection dazzles with colorful glasswork, and the Museum of Fine Arts highlights an impressive range of world masterpieces.
If you are more of a thrill seeker and looking for something to get your adrenaline going, Busch Gardens Tampa is home to some of Florida's best roller coasters & thrill rides. On top of that, if American football is your passion, from September to December you may be able to go to a Tampa Bay Buccaneers game.
You can fly direct to St. Pete – Clearwater from Hamilton with Swoop.
From shopping on Las Olas Boulevard to gondola rides on the canals, to a historic riverfront, have you heard of the ‘Venice of America’? This title comes from Fort Lauderdale's 300 miles of inland waterways that run through Greater Fort Lauderdale. Fort Lauderdale is also famous for its stunning beaches, where you can have a relaxed soak of vitamin D, a cultural art scene, and incredible wildlife.
This vacation hot spot is filled with art galleries, culture, and fun events. It offers all the glamourous shopping and beaches without the Miami traffic since the airport caters to international flights too.
If the outdoors is what you love, the Everglades Holiday Park (the wildlife preserve) is just a short drive away from downtown Fort Lauderdale, a wonderful opportunity for hiking, camping, fishing, and birdwatching.
