With Swoop headed from Edmonton to San Diego this year, we figured we’d help our Swoopsters flex their vacation on the gram because, pics or it didn’t happen right? And let’s be honest, it does feel nice to subtly flex on our ex. These spots in San Diego range from popular to hidden gems so you can be tourist trapped or stunt like a local.
One of the more popular picture destinations, and for good reason. Balboa Park is 1,200 acres of beautiful gardens and historical buildings. With a botanical garden and art museum, there are plenty of places to get your Instagram juices flowing. The park even houses a merry-go-round which could offer some fun pic opportunities that would add nice light to your feed!
Let’s take our horse to the old town…San Diego. A historic site with over 75 unique shops, plenty of restaurants and, patios, all in a unique cluster of Mexican-influenced architecture. Even the staircases in this place are photogenic with stunning blue and white details to make your pictures pop! The food here is also far from camera-shy, with mouthwatering authentic Mexican cuisine being a top recommendation in the area. So, spice up your feed with some goal-worthy food, or small-town shopping vibes in this tourist hub.
Nothing livens up an Instagram feed like flowers and oh does Carlsbad ranch have flowers. The vibes we get from this place are almost like the rolling hills of Tulips in the Netherlands, so embrace this photo opportunity and stop to smell the roses (literally, that is such a good photo idea). Carlsbad ranch also has a market with fresh ingredients, perfect for candid shopping pics and getting ingredients to cook a delicious meal after.
A less obvious place for most tourists, this café has cute neon lights, a rose wall and, delicious matcha drinks, not to mention the pastries! This is a good place to show you’re not like every tourist, you’re…different. Casual pics of your matcha and pastry on the table with sunglasses is even enough to flex an aesthetic, so what are you waiting for? A delicious and photogenic spot awaits you!
Now, this is for those who want something a little more underground, Café Madeline is a French restaurant with the most nonchalant way to say “hey, I’m cool” on Instagram. With a dark blue and red exterior, there is truly an opportunity to be unique at this location, and umm hello, croissants anyone? I think yes, this place is our hidden gem of San Diego, if it fits you.
