Boeing 737 MAX Information

At Swoop, the safety of our travellers, crew, and aircraft is always our top priority. Transport Canada has reopened the skies to commercial service on the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, and we will be safely introducing our MAX to the fleet. This is following Transport Canada’s independent validation of the Boeing 737 MAX changes and training requirements for Canadian carriers.

We are committed to providing timely information about our Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and answering questions our travellers may have.

Boeing 737 MAX at a Glance

Environmental benefits

New advanced technology delivers approximately 13% more fuel efficiency than our current Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft.

Traveller experience

A quiet engine reduces noise by up to 40%, while the overhead bins are designed to maximize space for carry-on baggage. Boeing Sky Interior creates a spacious feel with flowing curves and full-length sculpted walls.

Tested and trusted

Swoop has complete confidence in the Boeing 737 MAX as it returns to the sky. Critical operating systems are rigorously checked, implemented and tested. We aim to meet and exceed Transport Canada's standards.

Performance

The Boeing 737 MAX aircraft brings fuel economy to the forefront of air travel. With the latest fuel-efficient technology and LEAP-1B engines, the MAX will allow for longer flight distances across Swoop’s expanding network, all with a smaller carbon footprint. With the range and technology of the MAX aircraft, you’ll now see more domestic and transborder long-haul routes than ever before.

Safety

Swoop is unwavering in its commitment to safety standards. All aircraft in our fleet undergo frequent maintenance checks and regularly scheduled service to continually ensure all aircraft are safe for operation.

The 737 MAX aircraft have been thoroughly inspected for safety and are deemed safe to fly by Transport Canada. All Swoop pilots will have completed the comprehensive and mandatory MAX training prior to flying the MAX aircraft.

Cabin amenities

The MAX aircraft will provide enhanced cabin comfort to travellers with a more spacious interior, customizable LED lighting, bigger windows and Space Saver bins that push up and out of the way to offer increased capacity for carry-on baggage. Please note that the fleet is not equipped with in-seat power or Wi-Fi at this time.

Does Swoop have confidence in the safety of its Boeing fleet?

At Swoop, the safety of our travellers and our crew is our top priority, and we are always committed to providing up-to-date information about all aircraft within our fleet. While in the past there have been safety concerns surrounding the MAX aircraft, these concerns have been resolved through Transport Canada’s independent validation of the Boeing 737 MAX changes and training requirements for all Canadian carriers.

The MAX aircrafts have been thoroughly inspected for safety and are deemed safe to fly by Transport Canada. All Swoop pilots will have completed the comprehensive and mandatory MAX training prior to flying the MAX aircraft.

What needed to happen before the MAX could fly again?

Swoop's MAX aircraft have been updated with United States Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) required changes and validated by Transport Canada. We have met or exceeded all additional requirements outlined by Transport Canada, including comprehensive mandatory and regulatory pilot training, and all aircraft are flown on a validation flight prior to returning to service.

What role does Transport Canada play in ensuring the MAX is safe?

Airlines in Canada are heavily regulated and Transport Canada’s role is to ensure the safety of commercial (civil) aviation in Canada. Transport Canada aviation safety experts have completed their independent review of the necessary modifications to the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and have validated the changes certified by the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA.) Validation of these changes meant that these modifications could be actioned on Swoop's 737 MAX aircraft and Swoop 737 MAX pilots could commence their comprehensive mandatory training.

What are my options if I'm booked on a MAX and would like to change my flight?

Swoop's standard change and cancellation policies are applicable.

No cancellations are permitted except within 24 hours of making the booking, as long as it is more than seven days from departure. Additionally, tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable. This helps us follow our ultra-low cost business model. Bookings cancelled within 24 hours are refunded to the original form of payment. There are no fees for not showing up for your flight. If you have added ModiFly at the time of your booking you can change the time or date of your flight once. Otherwise, flight changes are subject to a change fee.

For changes being made three days (72 hours) or more from departure, and less than seven days from departure, changes incur a fee of $150 per passenger per segment. For changes being made seven days (168 hours) or more from departure, changes incur a fee of $100 per passenger per segment.

No changes are permitted less than three days (72 hours) prior to departure.

What can I expect if I experience a schedule change and my aircraft is switched to a MAX?

We hope to provide you with a seamless experience, but there are a few scenarios where optional features like extra legroom are no longer available. In this case, we will refund ancillary purchases to the original form of payment.

During the schedule change, you will be notified of any aircraft equipment changes through the email on the booking.
