Complimentary Round Trip COVID-19 Travel Insurance

Introducing one more reason to fly: COVID-19 travel insurance coverage.

As always, Swoop's first priority is the safety of our guests, staff, and aircraft. Effective October 15, 2020, we’re pleased to include no charge COVID-19 travel insurance coverage for our international travellers until April 24, 2021. Fly confidently to international destinations (including the U.S.) with insurance that is automatically added to your booking.

Heads up: this coverage is for COVID-related medical expenses, and does not cover non-COVID related health issues and pre-existing conditions.

Eligibility

Itineraries meeting the following criteria will automatically have COVID-19 related insurance coverage applied:

  • International bookings, including Swoop Getaways bookings, will be eligible for coverage up to 21 days

  • Customers who purchased round-trip tickets only (one-way is not eligible)

  • Purchases made on or after October 15, 2020 for travel between October 15, 2020 and April 24, 2021

  • Canadian residents flying outside of Canada must be covered by a valid provincial government health insurance plan

  • Customers who have not been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the 30 days before departure; and customers who have shown no symptoms of COVID-19 in the 14 days before departure

What is covered*

  • Emergency medical and hospital costs for outbound travellers if diagnosed with COVID-19 while outside of Canada for up to a maximum limit of $100,000 CAD per insured person.

  • Emergency medical and hospital costs for inbound travellers visiting Canada if diagnosed with COVID-19 while in Canada up to the maximum limit of $100,000 CAD per insured person.

  • Quarantine accommodation costs if the traveller tests positive for COVID-19 on the trip up to $150 CAD per insured person (or up to $300/day per immediate family), per day to a maximum of 14 days for inbound and outbound reservations.

  • Ambulance transportation and air evacuation costs related to COVID-19, up to the maximum limit of $100,000 CAD per insured person for inbound and outbound guests.

  • COVID-19 repatriation costs in case of death of up to $5,000 CAD per insured person for inbound and outbound guests.

  • One-way economy airfare for the return of one travelling companion and dependent children when air evacuated back home for treatment.

Can I use this COVID-19 coverage if a Government of Canada travel advisory is in place?

  • It’s specifically designed to offer coverage for COVID-19 while the Government of Canada’s “avoid all non-essential travel” advisory (level 3), which is still in place at time of publication.

  • However, if the Government of Canada changes to an “avoid all travel” advisory (level 4), your coverage may cover you for trip interruption. Certain exclusions, limitations and conditions may apply. Please review the Certificate of Insurance to learn more about what is/isn’t covered.

Can I use this COVID-19 coverage if there is a mandatory quarantine once I arrive at my destination?

No, this coverage is designed to cover you if you have tested positive and been diagnosed for COVID-19 while on your trip. It will not cover you if you have to self-isolate or quarantine upon arrival to destination, when you have not been diagnosed with COVID-19.

Can I be covered for other medical emergencies?

No, this plan is specifically designed to cover expenses related to COVID-19. Individual circumstances may vary. You may wish to contact a licensed insurer’s representative or a licensed insurance agent if you need advice about your insurance needs. To learn more about travel insurance, please talk to your insurance agent.

I already have travel insurance. How is this different?

This COVID-19 coverage is specifically designed to cover COVID-19 medical and related expenses only. It does not replace your existing travel insurance. We recommend contacting your travel insurance provider to determine what you are and aren’t covered for, under your current policy.

Are there eligibility requirements that I need to know about?

Yes. While this coverage is automatically included when you’ve made your purchase on or after October 15, 2020, for travel between October 15, 2020 and April 24, 2021, you and all those travelling with you, need to meet the following requirements:

  • Canadian residents flying outside of Canada, who are covered by a valid provincial government health insurance plan; or

  • Visitors to Canada flying into Canada on Swoop; and

  • Customers who purchase a round trip Swoop flight or Getaways package on or after October 15, 2020 for travel between October 15, 2020 and April 24, 2021; and  

  • Customers who have not been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the 30 days before departure; and

  • Customers who have not shown symptoms of COVID-19 in the 14 days before departure.

What destinations am I covered for?

  • Canadians travelling to international destinations, including the U.S. or

  • International visitors to Canada, flying in on Swoop, including the U.S.

Will I be covered if I have pre-existing medical conditions?

No, since this coverage is only designed to cover emergency medical treatment and related expenses for COVID-19. It will not provide coverage for other medical emergencies.

I've already booked a flight/Getaway in the winter season, will this coverage be available to me?

No, TuGo Travel Insurance's COVID-19 coverage is only available for Swoop flights and Getaways purchased on or after October 15, 2020 for travel up to April 24, 2021. 

I’ve paid for my trip using my Swoop credit, can I still be covered?

This COVID-19 coverage is included with all trips purchased on or after October 15, 2020, regardless of payment method.

What’s covered?

  • Emergency medical related expenses, as well as quarantine expenses, if you become sick with COVID-19, while on your trip – up to $100,000 CAD.

How long am I covered for?

TuGo Travel Insurance’s COVID-19 coverage is valid for the length of your Swoop trip as indicated on your travel itinerary, to a maximum of 21 days.

Coverage will either start on:

  • The departure date as listed on the travel itinerary; or

  • The day of actual departure.

Coverage will end on the earliest of:

  • The return date to your home province or home country; or

  • The return date as shown on the travel itinerary; or

  • The 21st day of your trip; or

  • At 11:59 PM on April 24, 2021.

What if my trip is longer than 21 days?

You will only be covered for the first 21 days of your trip. If you decide to extend your trip, you will not be covered under TuGo's coverage. 

Can I extend my trip and still be covered?

No. If you decide to extend your trip, you will not be covered under TuGo Travel Insurance’s COVID-19 coverage.

Is trip cancellation insurance included?

No. Trip interruption means a COVID-19 related event occurring on or after your departure date causing you to disrupt your trip as originally scheduled or interrupt your trip and return earlier or later than your return date.

How do I get reimbursed for my expenses?
