CALGARY, AB – February 1, 2019/CNW/- Today marks the one-year sales anniversary for Swoop. In its first year of sales, Swoop has welcomed 556,673 travellers onboard, sold more than 800, 000 fares and grown from 21 employees to over 300 dedicated Swoopsters in its bases of Hamilton and Edmonton as well as its headquarters in Calgary.
The ultra-low-cost airline has grown from its introductory five-destination Canadian network of Abbotsford, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Hamilton and Halifax to 17 destinations, spanning four countries. Swoop added service to five U.S. cities in October of 2018, Montego Bay, Jamaica in December of 2018, and three destinations in Mexico this past January.
“What I find impressive is that half of our fares were sold for less than $100 CAD all-in,” said Steven Greenway, President of Swoop. “We have delivered to our travellers exactly what we intended by staying true to our model. We continue to focus on keeping our operating costs in check and our fleet and network growth unfolding as designed.”
Swoop’s fleet has grown from two to six aircraft, with four more expected by the end of 2019. Included in Swoop’s current for-sale network are the newly announced destinations of Kelowna BC, London ON and Oakland CA, which are part of the summer schedule that begins April 27, 2019.
