Cancun is a real gem in the world. Cancun International Airport (CUN) has Mexico's most international traffic and is the country's second busiest airport. And why so many individuals make their way to the town is a no brainer: Cancun's sands are legendary. The sugar-white sand consists of crushed coral, which cools down your feet if you forget your sandals.
If you’re ready to jump in the ocean as soon as you get off the plane in Cancun, you’re in luck because there’s lots of options to get to your resort or hotel in a breeze! You can calculate your rate and book transportation to and from the airport on the Cancun Airport website. This is the safest option, as unlike many airports it is recommended that you do not hail a taxi from the airport here, as you risk being overcharged by an unlicensed solicitor. Make sure to always look for the Cancun Airport ID Badge and follow the instructions in your confirmation email when you book transportation. There is also a public bus system that has frequent routes from the airport to Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos, Tulum and Merida. And of course, if you’re looking to do some exploring there are car rental options at the airport as well.
Save money and stay hydrated in the hot sunny weather by buying bottles of water at the corner store nearest you. Tourist spots tend to overcharge for water so plan ahead and BYOW (bring your own water).
If you ever get tired of salt and chlorine, you can seek out fresh water for swimming at one of the many cenotes around Cancun. A cenote is a freshwater underground pool – the largest of which is Ox Bel Ha – which at 134 miles long which makes it the longest underwater cave in the world! They’re perfect for snorkeling, diving or a once-in-a-lifetime swim. You can access them on your own if you have a car, or you can check with your hotel for tour options. There are many tours that combine a visit to a cenote with other iconic attractions, such as visiting ruins in Tulum or Chichen Itza.
