Legend says that a local lake monster, Ogopogo, lives in Okanagan Lake, a popular tourist destination in the summer. Kelowna is a fantastic getaway for relaxation, outdoor adventures and romance. There is no shortage of award-winning wine with over 185 wineries to discover. There are many mountain trails, beaches and things to do, including exciting golf courses.
The best way to get around Kelowna is to walk as most of the local shops and restaurants are located downtown in the cultural district. Other options include renting a bike, taking the public bus transit, calling a taxi and renting a car.
Go to the local grocery store and DIY your own picnic to enjoy by the Okanagan Lake! Then take an easy hike at the Myra Canyon Park. Cool down at a nearby beach and attend a Parks Alive! show (in July and August) where you can listen to different types of live music and musical theatre.
Did you know how the name Kelowna came about? It is the Okanagan First Nation word for "grizzly bear". There are also 185 licensed wineries in the Okanagan Valley you can visit and experience wine tours at. Legend has it, a lake monster named Ogopogo still lives in the lake, be on the lookout for a green dragon monster!
